I hope the new year....

1. Is nicer to us than 2009.
I am exhauted from the sadness and heart-break that is branded in 2009. May this new year be full of happiness, "good" changes, fresh air, new beginnings, new things to learn, more to explore, more ways to improve. May we become better people, better spouses, better co-workers, better sons, daughters, friends, grandchildren, co-workers, church members, and neighbors.
May we give of our time more freely, our love unconditionally, and our smiles more sincerely.

In honor of this weekend...

I really enjoyed this quote from Elder Hollands talk (in the Ensign) about the
Ministry of
ANGELS
"Usually such beings are not seen. Sometimes they are. But seen or unseen they are always near. Sometimes their assignments are very grand and have significance for the whole world. Sometimes the messages are more private. Occasionally the angelic purpose is to warn. But most often it is to comfort, to provide some form of merciful attention, guidance in difficult times."

grow little roots!

Here is our little garden! Clark put these "soil discs" in each egg carton hole, then added-Seeds+water+sun and a week later look how big our Veggie garden has grown ALREADY! We are starting them off in the egg carton and then transplanting them into a big planter box in our backyard. We are just about to make our planter boxes today (more pics to come!).
Look what's in our garden:
-Snap peas
-Tomatoes
-Yellow Squash
-Red/Yellow bell peppers
-Broccoli
-Green Beans
-Carrots
So who wants to come over in a few weeks for a homegrown dinner?

What's in a bag...

Today I switched purses to go with an outfit, naturally. When I was cleaning out the purse I was going to use I found: Nasal decongestant, a hankie, a surgical face mask, cough drops, and a Bunker Family Mortuary business card. Its funny how so few seemingly random items can hit you so hard. I usually like the things I find in purses I haven't used in a while. Not this time. I miss him so much.

Date Night in Scottsdale!

After a morning of playing flag football with the boys (I, being the only girl playing), Clark and I went out for a night on the town! This time we just went to Scottsdale Fashion Square mall-which I haven't been to in like 2 years! (feels that way anyway). WE went shopping! of course we didn't get anything too crazy but I got a shirt, this hat (which I LOVE) and a necklace and a ring. Sounds like a lot but the accessories were from the for love 21 store, the jewelry store of forever 21 in the mall. Its awesome. I didn't see one necklace in there over $10. Most of them are like 4-6$! Super awesome, I'm obsessed now! After shopping we drove down Scottsdale road and saw The Gelato Spot. We had to stop in. Man it was amazing! I got cookies n' cream/Snickers and clark got mint chip/snickers carmel. MMMMmmmmmm! I'll be going back there soon!

What was Old is New!

This Piece of Lovely was my Great grandma Hattie's. I was considering painting it but can't bare the thought now that I picked up these antique-looking knobs from anthro. Saved me some work. It's truly amazing what new hardware does to furniture! Grandma would be proud!

Sunday dinner follow-up

So my idea of becoming an instant "Martha" was rather comical. I clumsily handled the cordon bleu, we decided to make real mashed potatoes instead of broccoli and they turned out kinda soupy, the corn was good, and so were the 7-layer bars (just not as pretty as i would have liked then to turn out). Overall, with the help of Auntie-Liz, I got through it ok. Practice makes perfect right? It was fun to spend the evening with Liz and Spencer! YAY for SUNDAY!

Haley and Drew's Wedding

My sister Haley got married last thursday, the 20th. She and her new hubby looked phenomenal! It truly was a magazine-worthy wedding. With a candy table, a 20-piece jazz band, gelato, fortune cookies, Mark Mabry Photography, lots of singing and dancing, and plenty of beautiful people. It was picture perfect. I couldn't be more happy for them both! And hopefully I can get my hand on some more pictures to post!
These photos are by Steve Porter (Drew's Dad), also a photographer. Lucky her!

My newest challenge.... A good sunday dinner!

This sunday dinner menu: Chicken Cordon Bleu, Garlic butter broccoli, Sweet Corn on the Cob, and Seven-Layer Bars for dessert! OK, yeah.... this is a little ambitious for me but I want a yummy challenge. So much of the things I make include one "kinda hard" entree and super-easy sides (such as instant mashed potatoes). So I decided, "what the hay" I absolutely LOVE The America's Test Kitchen Family Cook Book every recipe I have had is absolutely amazing and this sunday, EVERY recipe will be from this book. And I have eaten out of it a lot (and clark just surprised me and bought the baking book of ATCFCB). My step-mom, Catherine, first started cooking out of it and everything tasted so good that I purchased it, loved all the picture directions and tips so much that I bought it for my brother, nick, for his birthday. Needless to say, I got him hooked too! So I decided to invite Aunt Liz and Cousin Spencer over for dinner this sunday as my guinea pigs. If it is a success, My confidence level will be boosted enough to invite parents over without embarrassment over my amateur skills. My goal is to impress my "Cooking Idol", Catherine. If I have her approval, then I'll know I've achieved my "Cooking Black Belt"! Wish me luck!

I miss my buddy.

I have been thinking a lot about my Uncle Matt lately. I just wanted to share his last blog entry that he wrote on his cancer blog Matt's Spectacular Testacular Cancer Blog entitled "Today's the day", he wrote on january 14th ....
Here am I floating round my tin can, far above the moon
Planet Earth is blue and there's nothing I can do...
Here we go!

I googled the words because I wanted to know where it came from.
It is a part from a David Bowie song. I didn't find
the lyrics too fitting at the time, but they are now.
I apologize in advance if it makes you tear up, I did.

I really miss my uncle matty.

Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you

(spoken)
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff

This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare

"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do

Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows"

Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....

"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."
